Edward John Shaffer Jr.
Edward John E.J. Shaffer Jr., 39, of Blacklick, Ohio, died Feb. 5 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Columbus, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Siobhan.
Born Oct. 23, 1968, in Tunkhannock, son of Edward John and Janice Fenwick Shaffer, of Tunkhannock, E.J. was a graduate of Tunkhannock Area schools and received his master's degree from Penn State University. While attending the Penn State Lehman campus, he served as an intern in the Luzerne County office of Sen. Charles Lemond Jr. While on the Penn State main campus, he served for three years as the student representative on the board of trustees.
After moving to Columbus, E.J. served as the first CIO director of project management services at Ohio State University, then he worked at Wendy's as the manager of the information technology department; and most recently was employed as the project manager of the IT department at Abercrombie and Fitch.
E.J. started his work career as a preschooler standing on a stool patting out meatballs with his family at Shaffer's Pink Apple Restaurant. But many people will remember him as teenager E.J. the D.J. in Shadowbrook Resort's entertainment booth, flashing the lights and spinning the tunes, providing great entertainment for area dancers. He held the Tunkhannock Area High School diving record until a few years ago. He was a member of the school golf team and State High School Chorus. E.J. spent the year between high school and college as a Rotary exchange student to Denmark.
Also surviving are three daughters, Elizabeth, Adia and Malaika; a brother, John and wife, Donna Statnick Shaffer; sisters, Cassandra (Catherine) Bell and husband, Stephen; Mary Lu Shaffer and Sara Shaffer-Greene, all of Tunkhannock; and Susan Shaffer and husband, Corey Comstock, Mehoopany; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a niece, Lynda Nonnemacher; maternal grandparents, Harry and Dorothy Fenwick; and paternal grandparents, John and Beatrice Shaffer.
A funeral service was held Monday in Columbus.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial celebration of life at Triton Hose Company on West Tioga Street in Tunkhannock on Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. Arrangements by Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home.
The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions in E.J.'s memory may be made to the Edward John Shaffer Jr. Scholarship Fund at Peoples National Bank or to a charity of the donor's choice.
