Richard E. Hafler
Richard E. Hafler, age 86, a resident of Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale died Monday, December 15, 2008 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale.
Mr. Hafler was born February 3, 1922 in Honesdale, PA and was the son of the late Ernest and Anna (Stinnard) Hafler.
He served in the Army during World War II. He was a cook at the former Maple City Restaurant and worked at Wayne Memorial facilities services and PennDot Route 84 rest stop. He also did painting & carpentry.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years: Helen M. (Arthur) Lyons Turner Hafler, one daughter: Donna Haas of Shohola, PA and one son: Gary Hafler of Honesdale, PA; four stepsons: Allan Lyons of Beach Lake, PA; Ronald Lyons of NC; Michael Turner of NC; Douglas Turner of Honesdale, PA and one step daughter, Vera Halstead of Honesdale, PA; 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his first wife, Viola Gilpin Hafler.
A memorial service will be held at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale on Sunday, Dec. 21 at 2 pm.
Cremation will be at Lake Region Crematory in Lake Ariel with interment at Indian Orchard Cemetery in Indian Orchard.
